Biography

Dr Lin Xi (Xilin) is currently a Research Fellow in the Multiscale X-ray Imaging Lab (MXI Lab) within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University College London (UCL). His research focuses on biomedical image processing using deep learning–based methods. His current work centres on vascular segmentation in Hierarchical Phase-Contrast Tomography (HiP-CT) multiscale brain imaging.

Before joining UCL, Xilin worked as a Senior Research Associate in the School of Computing Sciences at the University of East Anglia. His research there centred on multimodal cardiac image analysis using X-ray, CT, and MR data, as well as multi-task learning approaches including classification, detection, segmentation, and 3D reconstruction. During this time, he was involved in the EPSRC-funded project (EP/X023826/1), “Three-dimensional Hybrid Guidance System for Cardiac Interventional Procedures.” In this project, he developed AI-driven multi-task computer vision algorithms for coronary artery segmentation and surgical tool localisation, enabling 3D reconstruction of vascular structures. These methods support applications across X-ray, CT, and MR image analysis, particularly for image-guided surgical procedures.

Xilin received his PhD from the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering at Beihang University, Beijing, China. His doctoral research focused on video object segmentation and remote photoplethysmography, with an emphasis on visual and scene understanding in dynamic environments.
